Following a Hearing at Macclesfield Town Hall, planning permission has been granted at appeal by the Planning Inspectorate for a new 18-hole Australian-themed Adventure Golf Course at Adlington Golf Centre. The project involves the creation of a water feature to form a central ‘lake’, a new reception building and 18-holes with structures based on features that include the Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Ayres Rock and King George Falls. Although the Inspector found that the works would comprise inappropriate development within the Green Belt, the Inspector concluded that the benefits of the scheme would far outweigh any such harm based on the evidence presented at the Hearing and these significant benefits include promoting healthy lifestyles, encouraging juniors and families to play sport, the inclusive ‘pay and play’ model operated by Adlington Golf Centre and landscape and biodiversity benefits with extensive new hedgerow, tree and woodland planting to be carried out. The appeal was allowed on the basis of ‘very special circumstances’ and the works can now commence on the delivery of this exciting project.
