Ormskirk Market Hall, Moorgate, West Lancashire – 14 student flats (84 bedrooms) – West Lancashire

In September 2013 Emery Planning, on behalf of Formby Hall Investments, gained planning consent for 14 student flats with shared living/kitchen areas and 84 en-suite bedrooms, including 11 fully accessible rooms; together with 1,000m² of retail space (A1 – A5).

The proposal will provide a high quality redevelopment of the rundown Ormskirk Market Hall. It will create a landmark building which will enhance the visual appearance and character of this key entrance to the town centre and the adjacent conservation area.

Although Ormskirk has benefited significantly from the growth of Edge Hill University, residential areas have in the past suffered from the rapid growth of Houses of Multiple Occupation to house the students. This exceptional, car free development, will serve to ease that burden on the local community and be a significant benefit to the future growth of the town.

It will be of major benefit to the town providing much needed purpose-built accommodation for Edge Hill University in a highly sustainable location and will positively benefit local businesses.

The approved scheme, prepared by Seven Architecture, was the product of extensive consultation with both the local authority and Places Matter who provided design advice on the proposal.
