Emery Planning were instructed to act on behalf of The Alchemist, a high end cocktail bar, to secure both planning and listed building consent for a external modifications, advertisement consent, installation of CCTV cameras and the provision of a pavement café on Nelson Street.
The Alchemist occupied a ground floor unit in the recently modified Eldon Square shopping development in Newcastle City Centre. Whilst having an entry from the shopping mall the unit also benefitted from an external elevation out onto Nelson Street – a partially pedestrianised street in the City Centre. The Nelson Street Façade is not only part of a Grade II Listed building but is also located with the Central Conservation Area.
Emery Planning secured approval of all the listed elements to meet the clients requirements and reflect the sensitive location. Approval of all matters were secured with the unit opening in 2017. Since this time the venue has proved to be a popular venue in the City Centre especially with it being one of a number of city centre venues with an external terrace.
